Russian forces have intensified aerial attacks on Kyiv and surrounding areas, with the growing use of fast, jet-powered drones disrupting supply chains and leaving some supermarket shelves temporarily empty, according to Ukrainian officials and local reports.
The attacks have continued for several consecutive days, keeping residents under frequent air-raid alerts and disrupting daily life across the Kyiv region. Ukrainian officials say warehouses and logistics facilities have been targeted, affecting the movement and distribution of food and other essential goods.
In the cities of Brovary and Boryspil, several warehouses were struck, with four people reported wounded, according to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv regional military administration. The attacks have added pressure to an already strained supply network.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has acknowledged the growing difficulty of intercepting Russia’s jet-powered drones, which travel faster than many of the drones previously used in attacks.
Zelenskyy said Russia launched nearly 1,500 drones against Ukraine between Thursday and Sunday, with approximately 800 described as jet-powered. Ukraine is working to develop new technologies to counter the faster weapons, while combat aircraft are also being used in efforts to intercept them.
The repeated attacks have fueled concerns about food supplies in Kyiv. Zelenskyy adviser Serhii Beskrestnov sought to reassure residents that Ukraine would not run out of food, saying producers and retailers were adjusting their supply chains and that European countries could help cover any potential shortages if necessary.
At the same time, Russia has continued targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of winter, raising concerns about electricity, heating and water supplies for civilians. Russia’s Defense Ministry has said it is preparing further large-scale strikes against Ukrainian energy facilities.
The latest escalation comes as Ukraine and Russia continue their long-range drone and missile campaigns. Ukrainian attacks have also targeted Russian infrastructure, including oil facilities and major commercial networks, although the impact on Russian civilians has generally been less deadly than Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian cities.
For Kyiv residents, the latest wave of attacks is creating a growing sense of uncertainty as the war increasingly affects not only security but also everyday necessities such as food distribution and access to essential services.
The developments underscore the changing nature of the Russia-Ukraine war, with increasingly sophisticated and faster drones presenting new challenges for Ukraine’s air defenses while repeated strikes put additional pressure on civilian infrastructure and supply chains.
