Seth Jarvis’ Overtime Winner Lifts Hurricanes Past Golden Knights to Even Stanley Cup Final

The Carolina Hurricanes produced a dramatic comeback Thursday night, defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in overtime to level the Stanley Cup Final at one game apiece.

Forward Seth Jarvis scored the game-winning goal on a power play just 3:56 into overtime, capping an emotional night in Raleigh after Carolina rallied from a two-goal deficit in the final 10 minutes of regulation.

The victory marked the first time since 1994 that a team has won a Stanley Cup Final game after trailing by multiple goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation.

Carolina struggled offensively for much of the game as Vegas controlled play and built a two-goal lead behind another strong performance from Brett Howden, who scored his playoff-leading 12th and 13th goals of the postseason.

The Hurricanes’ comeback began with a brilliant individual effort from Logan Stankoven, who forced a turnover and scored with 9:40 remaining in regulation to cut the deficit in half. Less than three minutes later, Mark Jankowski fired home the equalizer, igniting the home crowd.

A controversial moment followed when Vegas appeared to restore its lead after a scramble in front of Carolina goaltender Frederik Andersen. Officials immediately ruled the play goaltender interference and disallowed the goal. Golden Knights coach John Tortorella challenged the decision, but the call was upheld after review.

The unsuccessful challenge resulted in a delay-of-game penalty, giving Carolina a crucial power-play opportunity. Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal capitalized by redirecting a shot from Shayne Gostisbehere into the net, giving Carolina a 3-2 lead with just over four minutes remaining.

Vegas refused to go away, however. With goaltender Carter Hart pulled for an extra attacker, captain Mark Stone scored the tying goal with 1:21 left in regulation, forcing overtime.

Early in the extra period, a penalty against Vegas created another Carolina power play. Jarvis seized the opportunity, scoring his fourth goal of the playoffs and sending the home crowd into celebration.

The win ensures the series will return to Raleigh for at least a Game 5 while shifting momentum back toward Carolina as the Final moves to Las Vegas for Game 3 on Saturday.

Despite the loss, Vegas remains in a strong position after splitting the opening two games on the road. The Golden Knights will now look to capitalize on home ice as the battle for the Stanley Cup continues.
