Russia launched another wave of drone attacks across Ukraine, killing civilians and wounding dozens of people, as Ukrainian forces simultaneously reported new battlefield gains in their latest push against Russian troops.
Ukrainian officials said the round-the-clock Russian bombardment from Sunday into Monday killed at least three civilians and wounded 41 others. The attacks damaged civilian infrastructure and buildings in several parts of the country.
The latest strikes come after a week of diplomatic efforts at the United Nations aimed at advancing negotiations to end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Despite those efforts, attacks by both sides continue, with drones playing an increasingly important role in the conflict.
Ukraine has also claimed progress on the battlefield. Its Third Army Corps said Monday that Ukrainian forces had recaptured an additional 51 square kilometers, bringing the total area recovered during its recent offensive, known as Operation Vivaldi, to 176 square kilometers. The operation is taking place along a section of the roughly 1,250-kilometer front line.
The battlefield remains heavily influenced by drone warfare. Large numbers of unmanned aircraft have made troop movements increasingly difficult and have changed how both armies conduct operations.
Russia has continued expanding its use of attack drones, including newer high-speed, jet-powered variants that are putting additional pressure on Ukraine’s air-defense systems. Recent analysis has highlighted the growing challenge these drones pose, particularly around major cities such as Kyiv.
Ukraine, meanwhile, has expanded its own drone capabilities and used them to target Russian positions and logistics. Analysts say Ukrainian drone innovation has contributed to recent battlefield gains and helped disrupt Russian operations.
The latest developments illustrate the two-track nature of the war: while diplomatic efforts continue, the fighting remains intense both on the front lines and through long-range attacks against cities and infrastructure.
For Ukrainian civilians, the continued drone strikes mean the threat remains present far beyond the immediate battlefield, while Ukraine’s reported territorial gains demonstrate that conditions along the front remain fluid.
