Quebec Political Leaders Enter 15th Day of Election Campaign as Key Issues Take Centre Stage

Quebec’s five major political parties are entering the 15th day of the provincial election campaign, with leaders continuing to court voters as the Oct. 5 election approaches.

The campaign is unfolding amid growing attention to issues including the cost of living, tariffs, education, language, health care and government spending. With several weeks remaining before voters head to the polls, party leaders are using campaign stops and policy announcements to distinguish their platforms and appeal to undecided voters.

The five main parties in the campaign are led by Christine Fréchette of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), Charles Milliard of the Quebec Liberal Party, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon of the Parti Québécois, Ruba Ghazal of Québec solidaire and Éric Duhaime of the Conservative Party of Quebec.

The campaign has placed economic concerns high on the political agenda. The ongoing Canada-U.S. trade dispute and tariff measures are particularly important in Quebec, where businesses and industries are assessing the potential effects of changing cross-border trade conditions.

Affordability is also emerging as a major concern for voters. Political leaders are expected to face increasing pressure to explain how their parties would address household expenses while maintaining public services and managing provincial finances.

Housing and access to homeownership have also featured prominently during the campaign. Opposition parties have used campaign appearances to present proposals aimed at helping Quebecers deal with rising housing costs and improving access to affordable homes.

Education and health care remain other major areas of debate. The parties are offering different approaches to public services, government efficiency and spending as they seek to convince voters that they have workable plans for the province.

The campaign is also heading toward an important phase of televised debates. The first major leaders’ debate is scheduled for Sept. 15, followed by another debate on Sept. 16. These events are expected to provide voters with an opportunity to compare the parties and their leaders directly.

The election campaign officially began on Aug. 27, with voting scheduled for Oct. 5. The campaign calendar also includes advance voting later in September, giving voters several opportunities to cast their ballots before election day.

As the campaign progresses, the leaders face the challenge of turning policy announcements into voter support. The coming weeks are expected to bring more promises, attacks between political parties and efforts to persuade voters who have yet to decide which party they will support.

The 15th day marks another step toward what is shaping up to be a closely watched provincial election, with Quebec voters set to determine the province’s political direction for the next term.
