Public Safety Committee Calls Emergency Meeting on RCMP Allegations Against India, Heightening Diplomatic Tensions

Canadian MPs Push for Action After “Alarming” Revelations of Covert Indian Operations

In a swift response to growing concerns over alleged covert operations by the Indian government in Canada, the federal standing committee on public safety and national security has called for an emergency meeting. The move follows disturbing revelations from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) that link Indian agents to violence, including homicides, targeting the Indian-Canadian community.

The committee, chaired by MP Alistair MacGregor, unanimously agreed to convene Friday morning to address the issue. In a statement, the committee described the RCMP’s findings as “very alarming” and stressed the urgency of discussing government measures to protect Canadians from foreign threats.

Earlier this week, RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme revealed concerning ties between Indian government operatives and incidents of violence across Canada, including threats aimed specifically at Sikh members of the Indian-Canadian community. According to the commissioner, these threats are part of a broader investigation into India’s covert activities, which have included homicides and over a dozen imminent threats.

The situation has sparked calls from political leaders for immediate action. On Tuesday, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh urged a parliamentary committee to investigate ways to safeguard Canadians from these foreign threats. Singh, who is of Sikh descent, has been vocal about the need for transparency and protection for vulnerable communities.

Diplomatic Fallout Between Canada and India

The revelations have also strained diplomatic relations between Canada and India. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed on Monday that six Indian diplomats had been expelled from the country after New Delhi refused to cooperate with Canadian criminal investigations. Trudeau emphasized that Canada’s national security and the protection of its citizens would not be compromised, despite the diplomatic fallout.

As investigations continue, the RCMP is urging members of the Sikh community to come forward with any information that could assist in uncovering further layers of India’s covert operations in Canada. Sources suggest that more alarming details may emerge as the probe progresses.
