Travellers in China are entering the final days of the October 1–7 National Day holiday with a reminder to check regional weather before setting out. A September 29 advisory from the culture and tourism authorities, prepared with meteorological guidance, outlined different risks across the country.
The advisory forecast mostly fair or cloudy conditions in much of northern China, but cold mornings and evenings in some northern areas. It expected rain in parts of the south early in the holiday, with improvement after October 5, and warned of cold and wind in northern Xinjiang on October 6–7.
These are forecasts from the earlier advisory, not confirmation of conditions in every destination today. Travellers should use the latest local forecast and transport notices for their route.
Busy travel does not guarantee stronger spending
Reuters’ September 29 holiday preview described a surge in travel alongside cautious consumer spending. Booking activity can indicate demand, but it does not by itself establish total holiday revenue or how much profit tourism businesses will earn.
Practical checks before departure
Travel guidance: Confirm the return journey as carefully as the outward trip. Allow time for transfers, keep essential medicines accessible and check whether accommodation accepts late arrival. A countrywide holiday headline cannot describe every station, road or attraction.
Official guidance also urged caution around undeveloped outdoor locations. For mountain or waterside trips, follow local access restrictions and avoid treating a social-media photograph as evidence that a location is safe.
Final holiday travel and spending totals should be reported only once released, with the reporting period clearly stated. Last year’s totals should not be presented as this year’s results.
