Armani’s Business and Creative Evolution Takes Center Stage in Milan a Year After Founder’s Death

The Giorgio Armani fashion house is entering a new chapter one year after the death of its founder, with its latest collection in Milan showcasing the brand’s signature style while attention increasingly turns to the future of the business.

The Spring-Summer 2027 women’s collection, presented in Milan on Sunday, carried the title “Evolution” and reflected an effort to preserve Giorgio Armani’s distinctive aesthetic while allowing the house to develop beyond its founder’s direct creative leadership.

The collection was presented by Silvana Armani, Giorgio Armani’s niece and longtime head of womenswear. It combined daywear and evening pieces, featuring fluid trousers, long dresses, structured bodices and sparkling details.

Silvana Armani said the collection represented fashion that could be worn by a broad range of people. She also introduced cotton into the collection, a notable departure from her uncle’s preferences because, according to her, Armani disliked the fabric while she has a strong appreciation for it.

Giorgio Armani died on September 4, 2025, at the age of 91, leaving behind one of Italy’s most influential independent fashion businesses. His will outlined plans for the eventual sale of a 15% stake in the company within 18 months of his death, giving preference to potential buyers including LVMH, L’Oréal and EssilorLuxottica.

Armani CEO Giuseppe Marsocci said there is no predetermined buyer for the stake and that it could potentially be divided among the three companies. He also indicated that discussions could begin following the first anniversary of the designer’s death.

The fashion house is also undergoing changes in its creative leadership. Dario Vitale was recently appointed head of accessories at Giorgio Armani and creative director of Emporio Armani. His first runway presentation in the new role has not yet been scheduled.

The latest Milan show therefore offered more than a look at Armani’s newest designs. It provided a glimpse into how the company is attempting to balance continuity and change while navigating its founder’s legacy, evolving creative leadership and the future ownership of the business.

A year after Armani’s death, the brand remains closely associated with the minimalist elegance and sophisticated tailoring that defined his career, while the latest developments suggest that its next era is beginning to take shape.
