Sidney Crosby and Macklin Celebrini led Team Canada to a dominant 7-0 victory over Slovakia on Saturday in Stockholm at the 2025 IIHF World Hockey Championship. Crosby netted two goals and two assists, while 18-year-old Celebrini added a goal and two assists in the lopsided win. The veteran and the phenom combined for a pair of goals in Canada’s three-goal second period.
Nathan MacKinnon also contributed with two goals, while Brandon Montour and Tyson Foerster rounded out the scoring. Goaltender Jordan Binnington stopped all 14 shots he faced, recording his second shutout in as many starts.
The win keeps Canada perfect with 15 points from five regulation victories, placing them just behind Group A leaders Sweden, who have 18 points from six games. Coach Dean Evason praised his team’s defensive commitment, noting a sequence of blocked shots even with a 5-0 lead.
Slovakia struggled defensively, with Patrik Rybar conceding five goals on 32 shots before Adam Huska came in for the third period and allowed two goals on 12 shots. Slovakia now sits fourth in Group A with two wins, two losses, and one overtime defeat.
Canada will face Finland on Monday before a round-robin finale against Sweden on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, in Group B action, the U.S. overcame a second-period collapse to beat Germany 6-3, powered by Conor Garland’s game-winner and a three-assist effort. Germany’s second-period surge tied the game 3-3 before the U.S. regained control.
Elsewhere, Sweden blanked France 4-0 to stay unbeaten, the Czech Republic crushed Kazakhstan 8-1 with Roman Cervenka’s hat trick, Denmark topped Norway 6-3, and Finland edged Latvia 2-1 to remain third in Group A.
