Abia State Governor Alex Otti says he cannot be held accountable for the billions in salary arrears owed to state workers by previous administrations.
Speaking during the monthly media chat at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Umuahia, the Nigerian governor said he can only pay the outstanding salaries as resources allow.
While Otti had earlier pledged to clear all arrears by the end of August 2024, he noted that workers who failed to press previous administrations for their payments should not expect him to be rushed into action.
However, he reassured the public that he remains committed to settling the arrears.
