The Edo state Commissioner of Police, Nemi Edwin, says that the state police command has begun the mop-up of illegal firearms in circulation across the Nigerian state.

He said this is to ensure peace ahead of the September twenty-first governorship election.

The state police commissioner said that the first two weeks of his assumption in office have been occupied with a series of engagements with relevant stakeholders.

Mr Edwin explained that the action aims to ensure that the state remains peaceful and to seek the cooperation of citizens in a bid to ensure that the poll is violence-free
