Uber is moving deeper into the global travel industry, announcing a major expansion that will allow users to book hotels and vacation rentals directly within its app as part of its strategy to become an all-in-one travel and lifestyle platform.
The company confirmed Wednesday that more than 700,000 hotel listings will soon be available through the Uber app in partnership with Expedia Group. Later this year, Uber will also integrate vacation rentals from Vrbo, further broadening its accommodation offerings.
The update means users will be able to plan entire trips without leaving the app, including booking rides, reserving hotel rooms, and ordering food or essentials through Uber Eats. The company said the goal is to streamline travel by reducing the number of apps and steps needed to organize a trip.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi described the platform as evolving into “an app for everything,” highlighting the company’s push to consolidate multiple services into one digital ecosystem.
The new travel features also include added incentives for Uber One subscribers. Members will receive 10% back in Uber credits on hotel bookings, alongside discounts of up to 20% on stays. These credits can be used across Uber’s ride-hailing and food delivery services, strengthening the company’s subscription-based revenue model.
Uber One, which costs $9.99 per month, has grown rapidly, reaching 46 million members by the end of 2025. The company says these subscribers are more likely to remain loyal users due to bundled savings across its services.
Executives say the integration of travel services is part of a broader strategy to increase user engagement and create “sticky” customers who rely on Uber for multiple daily needs, from transportation to deliveries and now travel planning.
Beyond hotels and rentals, Uber has recently expanded into other sectors, including robotaxi development, parking services through SpotHero, and air mobility through its partnership with Joby Aviation. The company is also introducing new features such as voice-enabled search and a unified app interface designed to simplify navigation.
With its latest expansion, Uber is positioning itself as a direct competitor not only to traditional ride-hailing and delivery platforms but also to established travel booking services in the increasingly competitive digital travel market.
