Air Canada Workers Approve New Labour Agreements as Union Hails Historic Wage Gains

Air Canada has announced the ratification of two new collective agreements covering its finance and clerical employees, marking another milestone in the airline’s ongoing labour negotiations with unionized staff.

The agreements, negotiated with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW), were approved by employees following votes on two of three tentative deals reached earlier this month.

The newly ratified contracts apply to approximately 170 finance employees and 115 clerical workers. Air Canada said the agreements reflect its commitment to recognizing the contributions of key employee groups that support the airline’s operations.

A third tentative agreement remains under review and is currently undergoing the ratification process. That deal covers roughly 11,000 employees working in maintenance, airport airside operations, cargo services, and cabin services, making it the largest of the three agreements.

Last week, Air Canada revealed that it had reached a comprehensive tentative agreement with unionized workers across several operational divisions. The airline said the deals acknowledge the skills, dedication, and essential roles performed by employees throughout the organization.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers described the agreement as historic, highlighting what it called landmark wage increases and significant improvements for its members.

The successful ratification of the finance and clerical contracts is expected to strengthen labour relations at Canada’s largest airline while paving the way for the potential approval of the larger agreement covering thousands of frontline workers.
