Russian Attacks Wound 8 Ukrainian Civilians as Moscow and Kyiv Threaten Further Escalation

At least eight civilians have been wounded in Russian aerial attacks on Ukraine’s Kyiv and Odesa regions, Ukrainian officials said Wednesday, as Moscow and Kyiv signal that they could further intensify their long-range campaigns.

The latest strikes targeted residential buildings and infrastructure during an overnight barrage. Odesa was among the hardest-hit areas, where a 24-story apartment building and other facilities were damaged. In the Kyiv region, attacks caused fires and disrupted public transport.

Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 174 drones along with ballistic and aircraft-launched missiles in the latest assault. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted many of the incoming weapons, but several targets were still hit.

The attacks come after nearly a week of intense Russian strikes around Kyiv. Earlier attacks killed at least 12 people in Kyiv and the surrounding region, including railway workers, while damaging residential and other civilian infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has continued its own drone campaign against targets inside Russia. Ukrainian attacks have increasingly focused on infrastructure and economic assets, including facilities linked to Russia’s energy sector.

The escalation has triggered increasingly sharp warnings from both sides. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has argued that Russia must face greater pressure to return to negotiations, while Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused Kyiv of terrorism and warned of possible retaliation against countries supporting Ukraine.

The latest exchanges highlight the growing role of long-range drones and missiles in the war, with both countries attempting to damage infrastructure, weaken the opponent’s economy and influence the broader strategic balance.

With attacks continuing and diplomatic progress remaining limited, concerns are growing that the conflict could enter another period of intensified aerial warfare, further increasing risks for civilians across Ukraine.
