OTTAWA, Canada — Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is losing another senior member of his political team after Deputy Chief of Staff Aaron Wudrick announced plans to leave his office for a private-sector position, marking the third high-profile staff departure in less than a year.

Wudrick informed colleagues of his decision in a message circulated on Thursday, November 5, 2026. He said he would be leaving to pursue an opportunity in the private sector and spend more time with his family. His final day is expected to be November 27.

Wudrick has spent approximately two and a half years working with Poilievre, initially serving as director of policy before becoming deputy chief of staff.

In his message to colleagues, he described his time with the Conservative team as an honour and thanked staff members for their cooperation and commitment.

He also expressed confidence in Poilievre’s political future, saying he remained convinced that the Conservative leader could become Canada’s next prime minister.

His departure comes as the party prepares for another period of political organization following changes within its leadership office and parliamentary caucus.

Two Other Senior Officials Have Left

Wudrick is the latest in a series of senior personnel changes affecting Poilievre’s office.

Longtime chief of staff Ian Todd announced his retirement in May 2026 after serving in the position for several years. Conservative campaign manager Steve Outhouse was subsequently appointed chief of staff while retaining his campaign responsibilities, with Wudrick taking on the deputy position.

Earlier in April, communications director Katy Merrifield also announced her departure. She said she intended to return to personal projects that she had postponed before joining Poilievre’s team.

Merrifield’s departure followed efforts to adjust the Conservative leader’s communications strategy and increase his engagement with mainstream media outlets.

Conservative Leadership Faces Continued Scrutiny

The latest departure comes as Poilievre navigates questions about his leadership and the direction of the Conservative Party following its 2025 federal election defeat.

The party has also experienced significant changes in its parliamentary caucus, with several MPs leaving through floor crossings, resignations and other departures.

However, Wudrick’s announcement does not indicate a disagreement with Poilievre. His stated reasons for leaving are a private-sector opportunity and spending more time with his family.

The leadership office will now face the task of managing another senior staffing transition as the Conservatives continue preparing for future electoral contests.
