Ford Motor Company is recalling 741,195 vehicles across the United States due to a transmission-related defect that could damage the parking system and potentially allow vehicles to roll away, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall covers several popular Ford and Lincoln models, including certain model years of the Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, and Ford F-150.
According to NHTSA, the transmission defect can impair the vehicle’s park system, increasing the risk that an unattended vehicle could move unexpectedly. To address the issue, Ford dealers will update the vehicle software and inspect affected transmissions. Any damaged transmission components identified during inspections will be repaired or replaced at no cost to owners.
In a separate action, Ford is also recalling 36,046 units of the Ford Bronco due to improperly secured fender flares. The defective flares may detach while the vehicle is in motion, creating a potential road hazard and increasing the risk of accidents.
Fender flares are the protective extensions surrounding a vehicle’s wheel arches. Under the recall remedy, dealers will inspect the affected Bronco vehicles and repair or replace the fender flares as needed, free of charge.
The latest recalls add to Ford’s ongoing efforts to address vehicle safety concerns and comply with federal safety regulations. Owners of affected vehicles are expected to receive notification letters with instructions on scheduling repairs through authorized dealerships.
