KYIV, Ukraine — Russian missile strikes hit Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, early Saturday, November 7, injuring at least five people and damaging residential and commercial properties as Ukraine prepares for another round of peace negotiations involving Russia and the United States.
The overnight attack also disrupted electricity, heating and water supplies in parts of the capital, highlighting the continuing threat to Ukraine’s critical infrastructure just days before diplomatic discussions are scheduled to resume.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said energy facilities in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions had been damaged. He described the situation with the capital’s energy supply as extremely difficult, warning that disruptions were affecting heating and water systems.
Traffic was also suspended on the Northern Bridge over the Dnipro River following the attack.
Russia Confirms Strikes on Kyiv Infrastructure
Russia’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that its forces had targeted several locations in and around Kyiv, including the Northern Bridge.
Moscow claimed the bridge was being used to transport weapons and military equipment for Ukrainian forces. It also said strikes targeted an industrial facility associated with production of Ukraine’s Flamingo cruise missiles, alongside power stations, electrical substations and ammunition-related facilities.
The reported targets included infrastructure in the wider Kyiv region and an electrical substation in neighbouring Zhytomyr. The extent of the damage and the military significance of individual targets could not be independently established from the available reports.
Peace Talks Scheduled for Abu Dhabi
The missile attack comes as negotiators from Ukraine, Russia and the United States prepare to meet on Tuesday, November 10, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The discussions are intended to explore ways to end the war and represent another round of negotiations facilitated by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
However, significant disagreements remain, particularly over territorial arrangements and security guarantees for Ukraine. Western governments supporting the diplomatic initiative are seeking a framework that could help overcome the continuing deadlock.
Death Toll Rises After Humanitarian Aid Centre Strike
Meanwhile, rescue operations continued in Komyshuvakha, in Ukraine’s southern Zaporizhzhia region, following a devastating Russian guided-bomb attack on a former school and nearby shelter where residents had gathered to receive humanitarian assistance.
Emergency services reported that the death toll had risen to 55, with dozens of people still missing. Rescuers recovered nine additional bodies during the 24 hours leading up to Saturday morning.
The latest attacks underscore the challenges facing Ukraine as it prepares for negotiations while continuing to defend its population and essential infrastructure.
As the Abu Dhabi meeting approaches, the central questions remain whether the parties can make progress toward ending the conflict and establish arrangements capable of preventing further escalation.
