Polish security authorities have warned of a possible plot targeting Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, prompting an urgent response from police and intelligence officials.
The warning was announced on Sunday, October 11, 2026, after authorities received information about a potential attack against the two senior government officials. Security agencies described the threat as serious and said there was a high probability it could be carried out, although specific details about the alleged plot have not been made public.
Emergency Security Meeting Convened
Polish security services, police representatives and officials from the Interior Ministry held an emergency meeting to assess the reported threat and determine appropriate security measures.
Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister responsible for coordinating Poland’s intelligence services, said authorities were treating the matter extremely seriously.
According to government spokesperson Adam Szłapka, Tusk was informed about the threat early Sunday morning. Officials described the situation as particularly concerning, despite the fact that threats against public figures are not uncommon.
The information initially reached Poland’s State Protection Service, which is responsible for protecting senior government officials, before being passed to the police for further investigation.
Authorities have not disclosed the suspected attackers’ identities, their possible motives or whether any arrests have been made in connection with the alleged plot.
Poland Faces Heightened Security Concerns
The warning comes amid growing security concerns across Poland following three violent attacks at educational institutions in the central Mazovia region within four days.
The incidents left one person dead and several others injured, including children. The latest attack occurred on Saturday at a post-secondary school in Warsaw, where a 21-year-old student allegedly injured three people.
Police have also increased their presence at schools and carried out inspections following fears of further violence and possible copycat incidents.
Separately, Polish authorities have expressed concern about potential Russian hybrid operations intended to weaken Western support for Ukraine. Such operations can include cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns and other activities designed to destabilise institutions.
In September, Tusk warned that Russia could intensify hybrid attacks against countries supporting Ukraine. Moscow has denied planning attacks on European countries. However, authorities have not publicly established any connection between those concerns and the latest reported threat against Polish leaders.
Investigation Continues
Polish authorities are continuing to assess the credibility of the reported plot and determine whether additional protective measures are necessary.
The incident highlights the security challenges facing European governments as they manage domestic threats alongside concerns linked to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Officials have yet to release further details about the alleged attack plan. Security agencies are expected to provide additional information as the investigation progresses.
