Quebec Parties Make Final Pitches as Election Day Approaches

Quebec’s major political parties are making their final appeals to voters as the province heads toward its October 5, 2026, provincial election, with only a few days remaining in the campaign.

Campaign activities on Wednesday focused on several issues, including Indigenous relations, immigration and Quebec’s relationship with the monarchy. Several parties also announced commitments aimed at improving relations with First Nations and Inuit communities as Canada marked the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon continued to defend his proposal to abolish the office of Quebec’s lieutenant-governor. His political opponents have also commented on the proposal as the campaign enters its final days.

The election comes after a campaign that has featured debates over the cost of living, healthcare, immigration, Quebec’s place within Canada and the province’s relationship with the United States. These issues have featured prominently in the competing parties’ platforms and public appearances throughout the campaign.

Quebecers will elect members of the province’s National Assembly on October 5. Elections Québec says approximately 6.4 million electors are registered for the provincial vote, which is being conducted under a new electoral map containing 127 electoral divisions.

With voting day approaching, party leaders and candidates are using the final stretch of the campaign to highlight their priorities and appeal to voters who have yet to make up their minds.

The campaign has also attracted attention over concerns about possible U.S. political influence, following earlier comments by Coalition Avenir Québec Leader Christine Fréchette about potential American interference. Rival parties have criticized those claims.

The final days of campaigning are expected to focus on mobilizing supporters, reaching undecided voters and emphasizing the policy differences among the parties before Quebecers cast their ballots.
