An Israeli man was fatally shot near the Neve Tzuf settlement north of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, according to Israeli authorities, as violence continues to escalate across the Palestinian territory.
The victim was identified by the Samaria Regional Council as 30-year-old Netanel Shakron, an Israeli settler who was reportedly at a spring ahead of the Yom Kippur holiday.
Israel’s military said the suspected Palestinian attacker opened fire from a vehicle before fleeing on foot. Israeli forces launched a manhunt and later detained the suspect at a hospital in Ramallah, where he had sought medical treatment after being injured while fleeing.
The incident occurred as tensions remain high across the West Bank, where Palestinian militant attacks, Israeli military operations and settler violence have continued to fuel instability.
Separately, the Israeli military said it killed a Palestinian man near Jenin after he allegedly attempted to ram soldiers with a vehicle. The military said another person who was in the vehicle was being sought. The circumstances of that incident could not be independently verified.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attacks and instructed the military to expand operations in the West Bank. Israeli forces also carried out an operation in the northern West Bank town of Al-Mughayyir, where Palestinian officials said 28 people were detained.
The latest violence comes amid broader regional tensions. Egypt, Jordan and Kuwait condemned a ballistic missile attack launched by Iran-backed Houthi rebels toward Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities said the missile was intercepted and reported no casualties or damage.
Meanwhile, CIA Director John Ratcliffe met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi in Cairo. Egypt’s president called for efforts to resolve the Iranian crisis and urged full implementation of the second phase of the U.S.-backed Gaza ceasefire plan.
The developments underline the continuing instability across the Middle East, with violence in the West Bank occurring alongside wider regional disputes involving Israel, Iran and Iran-backed groups.
