World’s First Fully Robotic Double Lung Transplant Performed Successfully

Cheryl Mehrkar has made medical history as the recipient of the world’s first fully robotic double lung transplant, conducted on October 22 at NYU Langone Health Center in Manhattan.

Mehrkar, a medic herself, had endured chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for over a decade, a condition exacerbated by a severe bout of COVID-19. Her determination to find a solution led her to this groundbreaking procedure, which offers hope to others battling advanced lung diseases.
