As part of an effort to address the rising insecurity in Kogi West, Senator Sunday Karimi representing the district in the Senate has built and handed over a fully furnished and equipped military base to the Nigeria Army.

The military base, located in the outskirts of Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, according to the senator, would help to improve security in Kogi and some areas in Kwara State.

Speaking during the commissioning of the base on Saturday, the Senator said the project was aimed at helping the military and other security agencies to ensure quick response in combating terrorists, kidnappers, and other criminals in the area.

Also speaking, the Governor of the State, Usman Ododo, represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Commander Jerry Omadara (retd), said the base would enable the Army to have the security of the area under its control.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who was represented by General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Major General Obinna Onubogu, commended the lawmaker for the gesture.

It is hoped that the presence of a standard military base will serve as a deterrence to the criminals and restore peace and security in the communities in Kogi and enirons.
