The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it would begin distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to newly registered voters on Thursday, ahead of the governorship elections in Edo State, South-south Nigeria.x
While addressing the Resident Electoral Commissioners in Abuja on Monday, the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said all the newly printed PVCs have been delivered to INEC’s office in Benin City and are now available for collection.
He said a total of 184,438 voters which includes, 119,206 new registrations, 46,171 intra-state transfers, 8,847 inter-state transfers, 5,406 correction of details and 5,406 requests for replacement of lost or damaged PCVs have been printed and delivered to the Commission’s office in Benin City, Edo State.
He added that cards will be available for collection in all 192 wards in the state between August 22 to August 26, 2024 and afterwards, the collection will continue in all 18 local government offices across the State from 28 August, 2024 to 8 September 2024.
He urged voters to personally collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and, most importantly, to come out on Election Day to vote for the party of their choice.
Yakubu insisted that cards would not be distributed or collected by proxy.
