The Nigerian Senate has called for adequate security personnel to secure Abadam and Marte Local Government Areas in Borno State.
During Thursday’s plenary session, the Senate also mandated its Committees on Army and Air Force to ensure the effective implementation of the directive.
The decision followed a motion titled, “Urgent Need to Deploy Adequate Security Personnel to Endangered Local Government Areas in Borno State,” sponsored by Senator Monguno Tahir, representing Borno North.
In his remarks, Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, advocated for the engagement of special operations similar to those employed by the Chadian government in combating banditry, kidnapping, and the Boko Haram insurgency.
Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, supported the motion and emphasized the need for national dialogue with disgruntled groups. He also highlighted the importance of military collaboration and empowerment.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security forces for their efforts in combating insecurity. He stressed that the fight against an insurgency requires collaboration with neighboring nations.
