Dutch Police Employ Hologram Technology in Cold Case of 2009 Murdered Amsterdam Sex Worker

In a groundbreaking effort to solve a 15-year-old cold case, Dutch police have introduced a hologram of Bernadette “Betty” Szabó, a 19-year-old Hungarian sex worker murdered in Amsterdam’s Red Light District in 2009. The hologram, positioned behind a window, portrays Szabó seemingly knocking and fogging the glass with the word “help” appearing, aiming to connect emotionally with potential witnesses.

Szabó’s tragic story began in Hungary and continued in Amsterdam, where she moved at 18. Just three months after giving birth, Szabó was brutally murdered in her workroom, suffering multiple stab wounds. Despite extensive investigation, her case went cold, leading authorities to take this unique approach in hopes that new information would surface.

“We aim to put a face to Betty to foster empathy and hopefully uncover leads,” stated Benjamin van Gogh of Amsterdam’s Wanted and Missing Persons Team. Szabó’s family supported this dignified initiative, and the police raised the reward to €30,000 ($32,160) for information on her killer. Police urge anyone with knowledge, particularly past tourists from early 2009, to come forward.
