A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck a rural region of Nevada near Carson City, sending tremors through nearby communities and causing minor damage.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake hit just before 6:30 p.m. and was centered approximately 12.9 miles east of Silver Springs at a shallow depth of 3.1 miles, intensifying the shaking felt at the surface.
Residents in nearby areas, including Fallon, reported strong tremors. Video footage from the town showed grocery store aisles littered with fallen items and shattered glass following the quake.
Witnesses described a noticeable rumbling sound before the shaking began, which lasted for nearly a minute in some areas. While some household items were knocked over, initial reports indicate no widespread structural damage or serious injuries.
The USGS noted that surrounding communities experienced strong to very strong shaking, with instances of light to moderate damage reported.
