Thieves Steal $90K in Jewelry During Organized Heist at One World Bazaar in Manotick

In a brazen and highly organized burglary, thieves made off with $90,000 worth of jewelry from Manotick’s One World Bazaar. The specialty store, which has been a community staple for 20 years, lost 3,000 pieces of jewelry overnight on September 29. The heist has shaken the seasonal business, known for its unique handcrafted goods from around the globe.

Store owner Anneka Bakker revealed that the stolen jewelry included semi-precious stones such as garnet, amethyst, and sapphires, set in silver, with each piece retailing for less than $300. Bakker suspects the thieves were professionals, as they spray-painted security cameras and cut power to the premises before swiftly breaking in and targeting the jewelry.

The burglary was discovered the following morning by Shauna Wiseman, who handles marketing and e-commerce for the shop. Wiseman was stunned by the damage and expressed deep frustration over the violation of the safe space they had worked so hard to create.

While police continue to investigate the incident, Bakker remains optimistic, even offering empathy for the thieves. Despite the significant financial loss, One World Bazaar is pushing forward, working to restock before the end of their short fall season.
