Russian Missile and Drone Attack on Kyiv Kills at Least 12 as Ukraine Faces Renewed Assault

At least 12 people have been killed following a large-scale Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said, as Russia launched another wave of strikes targeting the country’s capital and other strategic locations.

According to Ukrainian authorities, the overnight assault involved a combination of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and attack drones, triggering air raid alerts across Kyiv and forcing residents to seek shelter as explosions echoed throughout the city.

Emergency services reported that multiple residential buildings, commercial properties, and critical infrastructure sustained damage during the attack. Rescue teams continued searching through debris for survivors while firefighters worked to extinguish fires caused by the strikes.

Local officials confirmed that dozens of people were also injured, with hospitals receiving casualties suffering from blast injuries, burns, and other trauma resulting from the bombardment.

Ukraine’s military said its air defence systems intercepted several incoming missiles and drones, but a number of projectiles penetrated defences and struck targets within the capital.

The latest attack is among the deadliest assaults on Kyiv in recent weeks and comes as Russia continues its campaign of long-range strikes against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, describing it as another act of terrorism against civilians and calling on international partners to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence capabilities.

Meanwhile, Russian officials have maintained that their military operations target infrastructure linked to Ukraine’s defence capabilities, although Ukrainian authorities insist that civilian areas continue to bear the brunt of the attacks.

The renewed strikes prompted fresh condemnation from several international leaders, who reiterated support for Ukraine and expressed concern over the continued loss of civilian lives.

Humanitarian organizations also warned that repeated attacks on urban centres continue to place immense pressure on emergency services, healthcare facilities, and civilian infrastructure.

Military analysts note that Russia has increasingly relied on combined missile and drone attacks in an effort to overwhelm Ukrainian air defence systems and maximize operational impact.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to have far-reaching humanitarian and geopolitical consequences, with ongoing fighting affecting millions of civilians across the region.

As rescue operations continue in Kyiv, authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage while emergency crews remain deployed across impacted neighbourhoods.

The latest assault underscores the persistent security challenges facing Ukraine as the war enters another intense phase with no immediate resolution in sight.
