Prince Harry Opens Up on Fatherhood Struggles and Mental Health During Australia Tour

Prince Harry has spoken candidly about the emotional challenges of early fatherhood, revealing feelings of disconnection from his children while emphasizing the role of therapy in personal growth during a visit to Melbourne.

The Duke of Sussex made the remarks while visiting a local football club as part of his ongoing tour of Australia with his wife, Meghan Markle. The four-day trip includes engagements focused on mental health, sports, and veterans’ affairs.

Speaking at the training ground of the Western Bulldogs, an Australian rules football club, Harry shared personal reflections on becoming a father. He described a sense of emotional distance during the early stages, noting that while his wife carried their children, he felt more like an observer than a participant in the experience.

He explained that therapy has played a crucial role in helping him process past experiences and prepare himself to be a better parent. According to Harry, addressing unresolved personal issues is essential to becoming “the best version” of oneself for one’s children.

The couple, who stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and relocated to the United States, have two children who did not accompany them on the trip.

Their visit has drawn mixed reactions across Australia. While many supporters welcomed their presence—particularly during a visit to a children’s hospital in Melbourne—others have questioned the purpose of the trip, especially given reports of public costs related to security.

In addition to official engagements, Meghan is expected to remain in Sydney after the tour to host a wellness retreat, marking a blend of charitable and commercial activities during their visit.
