NIGERIA : Remi Tinubu Urges Governors’ Wives to Prioritize Youth Empowerment and Skills Development

Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, has called on the wives of state governors across the country to intensify efforts aimed at empowering young people through skills development and sustainable social programs.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum, Tinubu emphasized that youth empowerment remains a crucial strategy for addressing unemployment, poverty, and social instability in Nigeria.

The First Lady urged the governors’ wives to leverage their platforms and influence to initiate and expand programs that equip young Nigerians with practical skills needed to thrive in today’s economy.

Focus on Practical Skills and Entrepreneurship

Tinubu stressed that skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training are essential tools for enabling young people to become self-reliant. According to her, initiatives that focus on vocational training, digital skills, and small business support can significantly improve the livelihoods of many Nigerian youths.

She noted that with Nigeria’s rapidly growing youth population, there is an urgent need for targeted programs that help young people build sustainable careers rather than relying solely on traditional employment opportunities.

The First Lady encouraged members of the forum to collaborate with private organizations, development partners, and government agencies to implement impactful programs that can reach young people at the grassroots level.

Role of Governors’ Wives in Social Development

Tinubu also highlighted the unique role played by governors’ spouses in community development. She explained that their close connection with local communities positions them to better understand the challenges faced by young people and women.

By championing initiatives such as vocational training centers, mentorship programs, and youth-focused empowerment schemes, the governors’ wives can help reduce unemployment and foster innovation among Nigerian youths.

Aligning With National Development Goals

The First Lady noted that youth empowerment initiatives align with the broader development goals of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritizes economic growth, human capital development, and inclusive opportunities for citizens.

She urged the forum to remain committed to creating opportunities that will allow young Nigerians to develop their talents and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Tinubu concluded by encouraging continued collaboration and innovative approaches to ensure that empowerment programs deliver lasting impact across Nigeria’s communities.
