Minor Earthquake Shakes Quebec Residents Near Montreal, No Damage Reported

A minor earthquake struck Quebec on Wednesday morning, causing a brief tremor felt by some residents approximately 60 kilometers northwest of Montreal.

According to Earthquakes Canada, the 2.7-magnitude quake occurred near Rawdon at around 7:40 a.m. The federal agency described the earthquake as “lightly felt” and noted that no significant damage has been reported.

Residents in the area shared their experiences, with Chertsey resident Michelle Blanc commenting on X, “The house shook for a few seconds. There was a strange humming sound.” Earthquakes of this magnitude, typically between 2.5 and 5.4 on the Richter scale, generally cause minor or no damage.

Although the tremor caused a bit of alarm, experts assure that such low-intensity quakes are common and rarely pose serious risks.
