Edo Politics: Court Reinstates Impeached Shaibu As Edo Deputy Governor

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday nullified the impeachment of Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.

Delivering the judgement, Justice Omotosho ordered the reinstatement of Shaibu because the Edo State House of Assembly did not follow due process in the impeachment process.

The judge also voided the appointment of the new Deputy Governor who replaced Shaibu.

The court also held that the allegation which the House of Assembly used as a yardstick for Shaibu’s impeachment was not tenable in law and did not constitute gross misconduct.

The judge ordered the Inspector General of Police to provide him with the needed security to enable resume office and function as Deputy Governor until his tenure expires.
