Deadly Russian Strikes Hit Dnipro as Ukraine War Intensifies, Casualties Rise

Russian drone and missile attacks on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro have killed at least five people and injured more than 40, according to local authorities, marking another escalation in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Officials in the Dnipropetrovsk region confirmed that four victims were found beneath the rubble of a residential building destroyed during overnight strikes. The attacks sparked multiple fires and caused widespread damage to apartment blocks, businesses, and private homes across the city. Later the same day, an additional strike in the same area claimed another life and left several more people wounded.

Regional authorities described the assault as a sustained overnight bombardment targeting civilian areas, underscoring the continued vulnerability of urban centers in the prolonged war.

Elsewhere in southern Ukraine, drone strikes in the Odesa region injured two people and damaged residential buildings, vehicles, and port infrastructure, highlighting the broad geographic scope of the attacks.

Across the border in Russia, officials reported that a Ukrainian drone strike in the Belgorod region killed one woman and seriously injured a man, reflecting the increasingly cross-border nature of hostilities.

In neighboring Romania, a NATO member state, authorities confirmed that drone fragments were discovered in a residential area near the Ukrainian border, though no casualties were reported. This marks another instance of debris from the conflict landing on Romanian territory, raising ongoing security concerns in the region.

The attacks came shortly after a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, in which both sides swapped 193 service members. While such exchanges remain one of the few areas of cooperation, broader peace negotiations have stalled despite efforts led by the United States.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated his country’s willingness to continue diplomatic talks, suggesting Azerbaijan as a potential venue for future negotiations if Russia is open to dialogue. Previous discussions held in Turkey and Switzerland have yet to produce a breakthrough in ending the war, now entering its fifth year.
