Aubrey Plaza Talks Megalopolis and Agatha: All Along in Candid Interview

Aubrey Plaza, known for her sharp wit and versatile acting, is once again making waves with her dual roles in Megalopolis, the latest visionary film from Francis Ford Coppola, and Agatha: All Along, the upcoming Disney+ series that continues the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s quirky villain, Agatha Harkness. In a candid interview, Plaza opened up about her experiences working on both projects, highlighting the contrasts between the two and what each meant to her as an actress at this stage in her career.

Megapolis, an epic, sprawling film directed by Coppola, presents Plaza with one of her most challenging roles to date. She plays a key part in the film’s vast ensemble, navigating a futuristic society grappling with its utopian ideals versus darker, underlying truths. Plaza admitted that working with Coppola was a dream come true, but the complexity of the film, which blends high-concept themes with intricate character development, pushed her to new heights. “It’s unlike anything I’ve done before,” she said, reflecting on the film’s ambition and the demands of shooting such an expansive story. “Coppola is creating a whole new world, and being part of that process was exhilarating and terrifying at the same time.”

In stark contrast to Megalopolis, Plaza’s return to the MCU in Agatha: All Along as the “mystically mischievous” Aubrey Plaza we’ve come to know feels like a homecoming of sorts. Plaza plays Agatha Harkness’ sidekick, reuniting with Kathryn Hahn’s character, who became a fan favorite after her appearance in WandaVision. Describing the experience as “pure fun,” Plaza talked about the freedom she felt in bringing a sense of unpredictability and charm to the character, much like Hahn’s original portrayal. The show promises to explore new depths of Agatha’s personality, blending comedy with dark fantasy in a way that has become Plaza’s signature style.

Beyond the roles themselves, Plaza shared her thoughts on how her career has evolved, noting that the combination of Megalopolis and Agatha reflects her interest in balancing highbrow, auteur-driven films with more playful, mainstream fare. “I love being able to move between genres and play around with different characters,” she said, adding that her journey from indie darling to mainstream success has been “incredibly fulfilling.”

With Megalopolis generating Oscar buzz and Agatha: All Along expected to be a major hit for Marvel, Plaza finds herself in a unique position to shape her future projects on her own terms. “I feel like I’m in control in a way that I haven’t been before,” she said, hinting at future directorial efforts and more involvement behind the camera.

Aubrey Plaza’s evolution as a performer continues to capture the attention of audiences and critics alike, and with these two diverse projects under her belt, her star power shows no sign of dimming anytime soon.
