Chaos erupted in Khan Younis on Wednesday as desperate Palestinians looted humanitarian aid trucks carrying flour into Gaza. Abdul Mohsen Fayyad, among those scrambling for supplies, said, “Hunger makes you do bad things,” revealing he’s survived on plain rice for weeks.

The aid, meant for local bakeries, was intercepted by starving civilians. Sixteen-year-old Ahmed Al-Faqawi said he joined the crowd instinctively upon hearing trucks nearby. Gunshots later rang out, signaling armed groups arriving to clear the scene.

The delivery follows Israel’s announcement to establish aid distribution zones in southern Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed 100 trucks with baby food and medical supplies entered the region Wednesday. However, the Palestinian health ministry reported 29 starvation-related deaths recently, underscoring the urgency.

The UN World Food Programme resumed bread production at a few Gaza bakeries, including Al-Banna Bakery in Deir al Balah. “Famine is present in Gaza,” said owner Ahmed Al-Banna, as workers baked through the night.

UN and WHO officials reiterated calls for unrestricted humanitarian access and emphasized the need for a permanent ceasefire.
