Former B.C. Conservative Leadership Candidate Caroline Elliott to Run in Provincial Election

Former B.C. Conservative leadership candidate Caroline Elliott will run for a seat in the upcoming provincial election, with the party naming her as its candidate in West Vancouver-Capilano.

The announcement was made Friday as the B.C. Conservatives reshuffled candidates on the North Shore ahead of the Oct. 24, 2026, provincial election. Current West Vancouver-Capilano MLA Lynne Block will instead seek re-election in North Vancouver-Seymour, opening the riding for Elliott.

Elliott previously contested the B.C. Conservative leadership race in 2026, finishing second to Kerry-Lynne Findlay, who became party leader after the contest. Global News reported that Findlay received 51% of the points in the final result, compared with 49% for Elliott.

Elliott has a PhD in political science from Simon Fraser University and has worked as a political commentator. She was previously expected to run for B.C. United in West Vancouver-Capilano during the 2024 provincial election cycle before the party’s support collapsed and she became involved in efforts that led to B.C. United aligning with the B.C. Conservatives.

The B.C. Conservatives’ decision to move Block to North Vancouver-Seymour also changes the political lineup on the North Shore. Block, a former West Vancouver school trustee, won the West Vancouver-Capilano seat in the 2024 election with 46.7% of the vote.

In North Vancouver-Seymour, NDP MLA Susie Chant is seeking another term. Chant has represented the riding since 2020 and won re-election in 2024 with 52.7% of the vote.

The B.C. Conservatives are entering the election campaign after a period of internal political changes. Elliott’s candidacy gives the party a prominent figure from its recent leadership contest as it prepares for the October vote.

Elections BC notes that candidates can continue filing nominations until 1 p.m. Pacific time on Oct. 3, after which the final list of candidates and their party affiliations will be available.

Elliott’s entry into the West Vancouver-Capilano race adds another closely watched contest to the 2026 B.C. provincial election as parties finalize their candidates and campaign strategies.
