Financial trading screens illustrating global markets, oil prices and the US Federal Reserve decision

September 16, 2026 — Investors are watching oil prices, government bond yields and the U.S. Federal Reserve as markets assess the inflationary impact of elevated energy costs.

Associated Press reported that U.S. stocks were slightly higher on Wednesday as investors awaited the Federal Reserve’s policy decision. Brent crude was around $107.59 a barrel in the AP’s market update, while the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield eased below 5%.

Reuters reported that markets were pricing expectations for a possible quarter-point rate increase, while persistent inflation and higher energy prices remained central concerns. The final policy decision and the Fed’s guidance could influence borrowing costs, currencies and investor sentiment.

Outside the United States, higher energy and shipping costs remain a concern for importers and manufacturers. The effects can spread through transportation, food production and industrial supply chains.
