The Nigerian presidency has rubbished claims by a human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, that President Bola Tinubu was disgraced by his South African host, Cyril Ramaphosa.
President Tinubu was in South Africa on Wednesday, June 19 to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Ramaphosa for his second term in office.
Nigerians followed the event with keen interest.
The activist posted a video on her X handle showing the South African President exchanging pleasantries with some of the guests at the event.
In the caption, she claimed that Tinubu was shunned and disgraced by the South African President because he didn’t shake the Nigerian leader’s hand in the video clip.
In a response, Presidency spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, described Yesufu and her supporters as “uncouth horde of pessimists” who are still reeling from their candidate’s defeat in the 2023 presidential election.
Onanuga said that Yesufu has been consistent with her hasty judgement and hostile attitude towards Tinubu.
Another video clip from the event circulated on social media showing the moment President Ramaphosa and Tinubu shook hands and said a few words to each other.
