Israeli airstrikes on the southern Lebanese village of Kfar Rumman killed at least nine people and wounded 13 others early Monday, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah continue to escalate despite a recent truce.
The ministry said one strike hit a building in the village, killing eight people, including a child and two women. Eleven people were wounded in the attack, among them four children and two women.
A second strike targeted a vehicle in Kfar Rumman, killing a paramedic affiliated with the Lebanese Islamic Risala Scout Association and injuring two other people.
The latest strikes come amid renewed hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, despite a U.S.-brokered truce that was reached more than two months ago. The situation has remained volatile, with both sides accusing the other of violating the ceasefire.
Israel has maintained military positions in parts of southern Lebanon, including the strategically important Ali Taher hill, which overlooks several villages and roads leading toward Nabatiyeh.
The escalation has also raised concerns about the effectiveness of diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the fighting. A U.S.-mediated framework calls for an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon in exchange for Hezbollah’s disarmament, but disagreements over the terms have slowed progress.
Lebanese officials have condemned the continued Israeli strikes and warned that further military action could deepen the humanitarian crisis in the region.
The latest casualties underscore the continuing risks faced by civilians in southern Lebanon, where communities remain vulnerable to renewed airstrikes despite efforts to maintain a ceasefire.
