A 19-year-old Winnipeg man, Nevin Young, is facing terrorism-related charges after allegedly spray-painting antisemitic graffiti linked to an extremist group in the Charleswood neighborhood. Initially charged with 26 counts of mischief, he now faces four additional counts related to terrorist activity.
Young’s grandmother, Alice Nepinak, expressed shock over the charges, describing him as a vulnerable individual with ADHD and developmental delays. She argued that he lacks the maturity to fully comprehend the gravity of his actions.
RCMP linked Young to the extremist group M.K.Y. (Maniac Murder Cult), which promotes racially and ethnically motivated violence. Experts warn such groups prey on socially isolated individuals and use online radicalization tactics.
Young remains in custody as his bail hearing is set for April 7. His family has raised concerns over his well-being, claiming he is struggling while detained. None of the charges have been proven in court.
