Pep Guardiola has confirmed he will step down as manager of Manchester City at the end of the season, bringing an end to one of the most successful managerial reigns in football history.

Guardiola revealed the decision ahead of his final match in charge against Aston Villa, stating that the time felt right to walk away after a decade at the Etihad Stadium.

“Don’t ask me the reasons I’m leaving. There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it’s my time,” Guardiola said.

The Spanish manager leaves Manchester City after winning 20 major trophies in 10 years, including six Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League crown, three FA Cups, five League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Manchester City also announced plans to honor Guardiola’s legacy by naming the North Stand at the Etihad Stadium “The Pep Guardiola Stand.”

Despite stepping away from coaching duties, Guardiola will remain connected to the club as a global ambassador for City Football Group.

Reports suggest former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is expected to take over as Manchester City boss next season.

Guardiola’s influence on football extends far beyond trophies. BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty described the manager’s legacy as a style of football that transformed the modern game and inspired clubs around the world.

The philosophy Guardiola developed was heavily inspired by legendary Dutch football icon Johan Cruyff, who once said that having a style admired and copied by others was the greatest achievement in football.

Throughout his time in England, Guardiola revolutionized the Premier League with possession-based football, tactical innovation and relentless success, establishing Manchester City as one of Europe’s dominant teams.

Fans and football figures across the world are expected to pay tribute during Guardiola’s final game in charge this weekend, marking the end of an unforgettable era in English football.
