Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced a new $270 million military aid package for Ukraine, reinforcing Canada’s ongoing support as Kyiv continues its defense against Russia’s invasion.
The funding commitment was unveiled at the European Political Community Summit in Yerevan, Armenia, where Carney emphasized Canada’s role in supporting global security and the rules-based international order. The latest contribution will be directed toward critical military capabilities identified by NATO, with funds used to procure munitions from the United States.
This new package adds to the more than $25 billion Canada has already committed to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, underscoring Ottawa’s long-term ռազմական and financial backing of Kyiv.
Carney is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the summit, as discussions continue on strengthening international coordination and sustaining support for Ukraine’s war effort.
Speaking to reporters, Carney highlighted Canada’s position as one of the largest per capita contributors to Ukraine and stressed the importance of deepening ties with European allies. He noted that as global geopolitical dynamics shift, Europe will play a central role in rebuilding the international order.
The announcement comes amid broader global tensions, including ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, but Carney expressed confidence that U.S. defense production would still meet Ukraine’s needs.
Canada’s participation in the summit—where it is the only non-European country invited—signals a strategic push to expand trade, security, and diplomatic partnerships across Europe at a time of evolving global alliances.
