Xavier Trudeau, the eldest son of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has officially launched his music career with the release of his debut single, ‘Til The Night’s Done. The moody R&B track, which dropped at midnight ET on Friday, echoes the signature styles of Canadian superstars like Drake and Justin Bieber.
“What you know about me, I ain’t like him,” the 17-year-old sings in the track. “We could roll sum, we could light one.”
Performing under the moniker Xav, Xavier features additional vocals from his younger sister, Ella-Grace Trudeau. The song is available on major streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.
“We could dim em all down or leave the lights on,” Xav continues in the lyrics. “Baby we could move in slow motion til the night’s done.”
Produced by Vishal “Duava” Daluwatte and recorded, mixed, and mastered in Ottawa by Joey “Tekika” Boyer, the track was developed under Pathway Music Group, the management company co-founded by Daluwatte and Boyer.
“‘Til The Night’s Done is a dark, mysterious R&B song that fits the vibe Xav wanted for his first release,” the producers told CTVNews.ca in an email. “The song is about someone who has true understanding and an emotional connection to someone while knowing they can’t truly be together.”
According to Pathway Music Group, Xav draws inspiration from artists like Don Toliver, Drake, and Post Malone.
“Xav has many more songs on the way,” Boyer and Daluwatte added. “He plans to do live shows within the near future.”
Following a teaser post on Instagram last month, the official music video for ‘Til The Night’s Done is set to premiere on Xav’s YouTube channel at 4:15 p.m. ET on Friday.
Proud mother Sophie Grégoire Trudeau previously showed her support, commenting, “Good work guys!” on Instagram.
Despite a marijuana reference in the lyrics, Xavier, at 17, is underage for legal cannabis use in Canada, where the minimum age is 21 in Quebec and 19 in Ontario. His father, Justin Trudeau, led the legalization of recreational cannabis in 2018.
