The World Darts Championship is set for historic expansion, increasing to a 128-player field with a record £1 million payout for the winner. Defending champion Luke Littler will aim to retain his title as the PDC announces a groundbreaking £7 million boost in total prize funds across all levels in 2026.
The tournament’s total prize fund will rise to £5 million, making it the most lucrative in darts history. The Premier League prize pot will also increase to £1.25 million, while the World Matchplay and Grand Slam of Darts will each offer £1 million. The latter will expand to a 48-player format for its 20th edition.
Four other major events—the World Grand Prix, Players Championship Finals, European Championship, and UK Open—will see their prize pools rise to £750,000. Meanwhile, the World Cup of Darts and World Series of Darts Finals will each add £50,000 to their respective funds.
PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter emphasized the commitment to growing the sport, stating that the record-breaking prizes and expanded player fields will create new opportunities for professionals worldwide. Littler, already making waves at 17, now has a chance to cement his legacy as one of the sport’s greats.
