Winnipeg police are searching for a man connected to a violent and unprovoked assault at The Forks Market that left a 30-year-old victim unconscious. The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. on June 6, when the suspect attacked the victim inside the market, knocking him to the ground and continuing the assault even after the man lost consciousness. The attacker then stole an item from the victim before fleeing.
The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition. Authorities believe the suspect later threw the stolen item at a woman walking her dog near the river path, and they are urging her to come forward, as she may hold valuable information.
The suspect was last seen near Bonnycastle Park, close to Assiniboine Avenue and Garry Street. He is described as a man aged 25–35 with a medium to heavy build, wearing a black T-shirt, black pants, black New York Yankees cap, and black shoes.
Police are asking anyone with information or who may have witnessed the assault to contact the major crimes unit at 204-986-6219. Anonymous tips can be provided to Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 or submitted online.
