Winnipeg Jets’ Dylan DeMelo Nets Game-Winner in Milestone 600th NHL Game

Winnipeg Jets defenceman Dylan DeMelo delivered a clutch performance Thursday night, scoring the game-winning goal in his 600th NHL game. The Jets secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken in front of 13,559 fans at Canada Life Centre.

With just 27 seconds left on the clock, DeMelo capitalized on a perfect setup by Nikolaj Ehlers, who handled a fortunate bounce off the boards to feed the puck to DeMelo at the blue line. DeMelo’s shot, screened by traffic, slipped past Seattle goaltender Joey Daccord, marking his second goal of the season.

“Yeah, that was awesome,” DeMelo said after the game. “Six hundred games is a great accomplishment. To get the game-winner on top of it, it’s a special night I’ll always remember.”

The 31-year-old defenceman from London, Ontario, reflected on the journey to his milestone game, expressing gratitude for the support of his family, friends, coaches, teammates, and staff who helped him along the way.

DeMelo’s teammates erupted in celebration following the goal. “The guys went nuts,” he said with a smile. “It’s moments like these that remind you of how special this group is. Everyone makes you feel valued, no matter your role.”

Winnipeg head coach Scott Arniel praised DeMelo’s leadership and consistency, emphasizing his role as a mentor for younger players. “Six hundred games is a testament to his hard work and example. He’s a leader on and off the ice, setting the standard for what it takes to succeed in this league.”

Joey Daccord, who stood tall for the Kraken throughout the game, earned praise from his coach, Dan Bylsma, despite the loss. “Joey was strong in net tonight. The last goal was tough—he couldn’t see it with the screen in front—but he gave us a chance to win.”

Mark Scheifele extended his point streak to seven games and his goal streak to four with Winnipeg’s other tally on the power play. The Jets’ special teams continued to shine, recording their NHL-leading 43rd power-play goal of the season.

The victory was a hard-fought team effort, but it was DeMelo’s milestone and heroics that stole the spotlight, providing a memorable night for both the player and Jets fans alike.
