A devastating fire in Winnipeg’s Tyndall Park area sent one person to hospital in unstable condition on Friday evening, as flames tore through a residence and caused significant destruction. Emergency crews were called to the scene just before 5 p.m. on the 100 block of Kinver Avenue, located west of Keewatin Street, according to a news release from the City of Winnipeg.
When firefighters from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service arrived, they were met with intense smoke and fire conditions. Paramedics quickly treated one individual at the scene before transporting them to hospital in unstable condition. No additional injuries have been reported at this time.
Given the severity of the fire, a defensive strategy was employed by firefighters to battle the blaze from the outside before crews could safely transition to an interior attack. The fire was officially declared under control a little over three hours later, shortly after 8 p.m.
In response to the displacement of residents due to the fire damage, the city’s emergency social services team was dispatched to provide support and resources to those affected. The exact number of displaced individuals has not been confirmed.
As of now, the cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials have not yet released an estimate of the damages incurred. The incident has left the local community shaken, serving as a reminder of the critical role emergency services play in safeguarding public safety.
