Walter Cup Playoffs Set as Montreal, Toronto, Minnesota, and Ottawa Battle for Championship Glory

The PWHL Walter Cup playoffs are set following a dramatic final day of the regular season. The defending champion Minnesota Frost secured their place by demolishing the Boston Fleet 8-1, while the Ottawa Charge clinched their first-ever playoff berth with an overtime win over the Toronto Sceptres. Montreal Victoire finished first overall and exercised their right to choose Ottawa as their first-round opponent, leaving Toronto to face Minnesota in a rematch of last year’s playoff heartbreak.

Toronto will look to rewrite history after blowing a 2-0 series lead to Minnesota last season. The Frost return their championship core, including playoff MVP Taylor Heise, while Toronto brings back MVP Natalie Spooner and elite defender Renata Fast. Meanwhile, Montreal relies on the dominant play of Marie-Philip Poulin and goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens, facing a resilient Ottawa squad led by Brianne Jenner and rookie goalie Gwyneth Philips in the absence of injured starter Emerance Maschmeyer.

The semifinals begin Wednesday with Toronto vs. Minnesota, followed by Montreal vs. Ottawa on Thursday. One Canadian team is guaranteed a spot in the Walter Cup final.
