Virgin Atlantic and WestJet are strengthening their partnership with an expanded codeshare agreement, aligning with Virgin Atlantic’s launch of direct flights from London Heathrow (LHR) to Toronto Pearson (YYZ) on March 30. This expansion enhances connectivity between the UK and 13 Canadian destinations via Toronto, including Calgary (YYC) and Edmonton (YEG), both key hubs in WestJet’s network.
Virgin Atlantic will base its Toronto operations at Terminal 3, where WestJet is also located, ensuring smoother connections for travelers. The airline is collaborating with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority and Canada Border Services Agency to facilitate seamless transits.
The launch of Virgin Atlantic’s London-Toronto route marks its return to Canada after more than a decade. The airline previously operated seasonal flights between London Heathrow and Vancouver (YVR) from 2012 to 2014 using Airbus A340 aircraft. The new daily service, introduced as part of Virgin Atlantic’s 40th-anniversary celebrations, will start with fares from £490 ($617). However, flights may be reduced to four times weekly during the winter months due to lower seasonal demand.
Previously, Virgin Atlantic and WestJet codeshared extensively through Calgary, offering 160 weekly flights across 14 destinations. With the new focus on Toronto Pearson, the codeshare agreement now centers on WestJet’s onward connections to nine Canadian cities, further expanding international travel options for passengers.
