The Nigerian House of Representatives has rejected the planned conferment of the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) on its Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas.

During plenary session, lawmakers expressed their dissatisfaction with President Tinubu’s decision to award Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), while designating the lower CFR honor for Abbas.

This opposition was prompted by a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Benue lawmaker Hon. Philip Agbese.

In his Independence Day address, Tinubu announced that Akpabio and Kekere-Ekun would receive the GCON, while Abbas and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin would receive the CFR.

Additionally, Deputy Speaker of the House Hon. Ben Kalu was slated to be awarded the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). The president did not specify a date for the conferments
