The Nigerian Senate has passed a bill to provide a legal framework for the establishment of Federal University of Agriculture and Tropical Studies, Iragbiji, Osun State.
The bill was passed after the upper chamber considered a report by the Committee on Agriculture Colleges and Institutions.
The report was presented by committee Chairman Senator Simon Lalong.
Senator Lalong in his lead debate said the bill seeks to provide a legislative framework to support establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture and Tropical Studies, Iragbiji, Osun State sponsored by Senator Bamidele Opeyemi.
The bill was read for the third time and subsequently passed by the upper legislative chamber on Thursday after considering its committee’s report.
The bill will now be sent to President Bola Tinubu to be signed into law in the coming days.
In a similar development, the upper legislative body also passed for second reading a bill seeking the establishment of a Chartered Institute of Petroleum and Gas Engineers of Nigeria bill 2024.
The sponsor of the bill Senator Jonah William said the piece of legislation aimed to address the growing needs for professional recognition and regulations in the petroleum and gas engineering sector.
